Remembering the "Youth Encounter Retreat" 2009
With spring approaching quickly (wishful thinking) and "The Journey" classes starting up again I can't help but to be anxious for the next "Encounter Retreat"!! So I decided to revive this blog recalling last years amazing encounter with God!
Wow, what a weekend! It’s really hard to explain in words what this retreat was all about, but I’ll give it a shot. It starts out as a class that is offered at our church; Evangel Life Center in Madison. The class is called “The Journey”... its basic concept is revealing the “cross”. This is a foundation to your Christian walk, it introduces you to Jesus and what he did for us; the price he paid. Its main focus is a revelation of the cross, what the price Jesus paid actually bought! In the middle of this “Journey” course is a three day retreat called “Encounter”. At this retreat’s end we will have all encountered Jesus and find freedom at the cross. Yup... I did say three days and that's not three classes, its three days! Nineteen of our youth, Adam C. our youth pastor, and seven youth ministers spent three very powerful and trying days at a borrowed house in Stoughton (Thank You Ruth!).
This retreat is made up of carefully planned sessions that are designed to prep you for surgery if you will... fourteen sessions to be exact. These sessions drag out obvious yet hidden events, emotion, trauma, etc... things that bond us; chains, strongholds in our hearts that separate us from God... its called sin. We learn what sin is, what it does to us, what it does to this world. The amazing thing about this retreat is revelation... the hardest thing is letting it go. Jesus is so amazing, he is the center, the savior, the rock, the provider of salvation, the counselor, the friend. He came to this little house in Stoughton, he delivered nineteen youth from sin that bound them from God. God showed up with authority and allowed Adam and us staff to be used; to deliver powerful testimony along with his word.
I am so blessed to be a part of this ministry! I have learned so much and my life will never be the same after this event. Nineteen kids from all walks of life broke their chains and received “freedom”.
Thank You Jesus!
